BINTANGOR: The MyLesen programme in Meradong continues to make significant strides in improving road safety and expanding licence accessibility, with a total of 1,623 participants successfully obtaining their motorcycle licences which became one of the highest participation rates recorded since the initiative began.
The achievement underscores the government’s commitment to helping B40 communities gain legal access to driving at an affordable cost while strengthening efforts to nurture safer and more responsible road users.
Meradong Assemblyman Datuk Ding Kuong Hiing said MyLesen has evolved beyond its role as a licensing initiative, becoming a structured platform to instil discipline and deepen awareness among new riders.
“MyLesen is not just about getting a licence. It requires the holder to become a disciplined driver with a strong sense of responsibility on the road,” he said when met at the closing ceremony *recently*.
He added that since its rollout in early 2024, the initiative has been a key enabler for low-income groups to obtain licences at minimal cost, easing financial pressure on families while boosting compliance with road regulations.
He said the opportunity to drive legally not only benefits the participants but also contributes to the broader national effort to produce road users who are more accountable and mindful of safety.
“Every trained licence holder plays a crucial role in reducing accident risks. This is a meaningful contribution to our national target of lowering road-accident deaths,” he emphasised.
Datuk Ding also reiterated that continuous enforcement by the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and the Road Transport Department (JPJ) remains essential to supporting the government’s aim of reducing road-fatality rates by 50 per cent by 2030.
He said education, structured training and consistent enforcement together can foster a safer driving culture across communities. -UKASnews
