Halal Awareness Programme Raises Community Understanding On Shariah Slaughtering
KUCHING: The ‘Halal Awareness Community: Halal Awareness and Halal Slaughtering Training’ programme serves as an important platform in enhancing the community's understanding of the halal concept, particularly regarding proper slaughtering methods in accordance with Islamic law (Shariah).
Sarawak Deputy Minister for Energy and Environmental Sustainability and Demak Laut Assemblyman Datuk Dr. Hazland Abang Hipni said that such programmes not only provide exposure from a religious perspective but also help shape social awareness and community development, especially among the younger generation.
According to him, efforts to strengthen halal awareness within the community are vital as it is closely linked to the responsibility of Muslims to ensure that the food consumed is halal, clean, and compliant with shariah requirements.
“Programs like this are excellent for developing the community, not just physically, but also in terms of the mindset, awareness, and understanding of the residents,” he said when speaking at the programme on Sunday.
Datuk Dr. Hazland also emphasised that the animal slaughtering process must be carried out using proper and humane methods so that the animals are not tortured, while simultaneously fulfilling the demands of the Islamic religion.
In the meantime, he expressed his readiness to continue supporting community awareness and social development programmes in the Demak Laut area, including initiatives involving youths and village communities in the future.
Also present were Kuching District Officer Zaidi Sarkawi, Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) Lecturer Dr. Mohd Amir Ridhwan Abdullah, and Halal Awareness and Halal Slaughtering Course Programme Director Nurnajla Damia Zaidi. — UKASnews
