Matang Vocational College Team Finishes Runner-Up At International Robotics Championship In Taiwan
TAIPEI: Sarawak’s Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) students have once again demonstrated their capabilities on the international stage after the Robotics Team from Matang Vocational College secured second place through the Finalist Alliance Award in the League of Mecha-Clash (LOM) category at the STVE x MARC Open Championship 2026.
The competition, held from May 30 to 31 at the National Taiwan Science Education Center, brought together leading robotics teams from various countries to test their skills in robot design, programming, strategy and teamwork.
The League of Mecha-Clash (LOM) category is an alliance-based competition that requires participants to develop high-performance robots capable of carrying out tasks autonomously and through manual control in a competitive environment.
In addition to technical proficiency, success in the category also depends on strategic planning, communication skills and effective collaboration among teams forming alliances throughout the competition.
The Matang Vocational College Robotics Team delivered a consistent and impressive performance, advancing to the final round before earning the Finalist Alliance Award, thereby bringing recognition to both the institution and Malaysia on the global stage.
The achievement demonstrates that students from the country’s vocational colleges possess a high level of expertise in robotics, technology and innovation, comparable with their international counterparts.
The STVE x MARC Open Championship 2026 is an international robotics competition organised by the Master AI Robot Cup (MARC), providing participants with a platform to apply their knowledge of STEM, artificial intelligence (AI), programming and engineering in a real-world competitive setting.
The success is expected to inspire the college community to continue excelling in TVET, particularly in robotics and automation technology, in line with efforts to develop a highly skilled workforce for the future. -UKASnews
