KUCHING: The Sarawak Bumiputera Teachers' Cooperative (KOBAGUS) is planning a housing project development in the Bako area, involving approximately 10 acres of land.
KOBAGUS Chairman, Mohamad Mortadza Mantrang, said the courtesy visit on Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg was aimed at discussing several matters related to the implementation of the project, including the challenges of developing hilly terrain.
He said the topography of the area requires more detailed planning and higher development costs, including the construction of retaining walls to enable the housing project to be carried out in a more orderly manner.
"That is why we met with the Sarawak Premier to seek assistance in addressing the matter so that this project can proceed.
"Whatever the solution may be, we rely on his wisdom in handling the issue," he said at a press conference following the courtesy visit on Tuesday.
It is understood that the 10.4-acre site is proposed for the development of 105 housing units comprising single and double-storey terraced houses, with the development plan to be submitted to the State Planning Authority (SPA).
In a related development, Mohamad Mortadza said KOBAGUS is also exploring the potential of acquiring adjacent remaining land for a proposed Smart City development.
He said the proposed development has the potential to become one of the pioneer smart city development projects undertaken by a cooperative in Sarawak. -UKASnews
