KUCHING: AirAsia is set to reinstate its domestic routes connecting Penang with the East Malaysian capital cities of Kuching and Kota Kinabalu, effective from 31 March 2024.

In a statement issued on Monday, it said travellers can now secure seats with prices starting as low as RM119 one-way all-in for the Kuching to Penang route and RM159 for Kota Kinabalu-Penang.

The promotional fares are available for booking until 18 February 2024, offering travel opportunities from 31 March to 30 November 2024. Bookings can be conveniently made through the airasia Superapp and the airasia.com website.

These routes, managed by AirAsia Malaysia operating from its hubs in Kuching and Kota Kinabalu, have consistently been a preferred choice among travellers from both ends of the country.

Beyond Penang island, residents from other northern states, including Seberang Perai, Kedah, Perlis, and Perak, will find these routes offering enhanced, more straightforward, and convenient travel options to reach Kuching and Kota Kinabalu, enabling exploration of the natural beauty, rich heritage, and diverse cultures of the Borneo regions of Sarawak and Sabah.

AirAsia has further improved connectivity by providing daily direct flights from both Kuching and Kota Kinabalu, facilitating seamless planning for holidaymakers looking to explore both Sarawak and Sabah.

Travellers departing from Kuching can also extend their exploration with daily direct flights to Sibu, Bintulu, and Miri. Similarly, those leaving from Kota Kinabalu have direct access to Sandakan and Tawau in eastern Sabah.

This newly reinstated route has effectively made Penang easily accessible for travellers from Sarawak and Sabah, offering a gateway to the city’s abundant tourism attractions, from its world-renowned street food to meticulously preserved historical sites, culture, and natural heritage.

Beyond leisure travel, the route serves as a convenient connectivity option for individuals in the education and business sectors.

For those departing from the island city, seamless connections by road and rail to other northern states and even Southern Thailand are now within reach. AirAsia also provides direct air connectivity from Penang to Langkawi island, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, and Ho Chi Minh City, among other destinations. – UKASnews
