KUCHING: Sarawak including the Kabong district is now recorded as having no households categorised as hardcore poor.
Deputy Minister for Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Datuk Mohammad Razi Sitam said this is based on the latest 2022 Hardcore Poor Poverty Line Income (PLI) data, which sets the official threshold at RM1,298 per month.
“According to the eKasih poverty statistics as of 1 October 2025, there are no households in the hardcore poor category in Sarawak, nor in the Kabong district.
“This is based on the 2022 Hardcore Poor PLI which is RM1,298 per month,” he said.
He was responding to a question from Kabong Assemblyman Dato Mohd Chee Kadir during the 19th Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) Sitting on Wednesday.
The Deputy Minister elaborated that the state government continues to strengthen social intervention through various forms of assistance to support low-income and vulnerable groups.
These include cash aid, entrepreneurship assistance, equipment support to boost income, skills training, medical support, agricultural development programmes, housing assistance and education-related aid such as uniforms, free transportation and SPM tuition.
He emphasised that these efforts demonstrate the Sarawak government’s ongoing commitment to ensuring that citizens in all areas, including Kabong, receive comprehensive access to programmes capable of improving their wellbeing and standard of living.
Meanwhile, eKasih is the National Poverty Database developed to plan, implement and monitor poverty eradication programmes.
It records detailed household information including profiles, assistance received, applications and programme effectiveness to ensure interventions reach eligible groups. -UKASnews
