Borneo Culture Museum Records 265,803 Visitors As Of November This Year
KUCHING: The Borneo Culture Museum (BCM) recorded a total of 265,803 visitors up to November this year.
Sarawak Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, stated that the museum has received over 1.5 million visitors since opening in March 2022, making it one of the main attractions in Kuching.
Consequently, he emphasised the importance of creativity among curators and museum management to ensure that artefacts are rotated regularly to maintain the museum's appeal to visitors.
"This process ensures that the museum remains vibrant and engaging, offering new experiences to repeat visitors.
"Otherwise, those who rarely visit museums might feel there is nothing new to see.
"Therefore, the creativity of the management and curators is crucial to ensuring that exhibitions are always dynamic and relevant," he said while speaking at the Launching Ceremony of Helios: (The Sun) at the BCM on Saturday.
Dato Sri Abdul Karim added that this aims to dispel the notion that museum exhibitions remain static and unchanged.
He clarified that it is standard practice for museums worldwide to display only about 20 per cent of their collection at any given time, while the remaining 80 per cent is kept in storage.
With the introduction of the new exhibition, Helios: (The Sun), Dato Sri Abdul Karim expressed hope that it would draw more visitors to the museum.
"I sincerely hope that the Sarawak Museum Department will continue to bring in more high-impact, international-standard works and exhibitions in the future.
"In this way, we can continue to promote and educate the public not only about art, history, and culture but also about science and technology, in line with current interests and needs," he asserted.
Also present were the Deputy Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, Sarawak Datuk Snowdan Lawan; Senator, Dato Ahmad Ibrahim; Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, Sarawak Datu Sherrina Husaini; and other distinguished guests. - UKASnews
