Tengku Ampuan Pahang Calls For Revival Of Sarawak Pottery Art
KUCHING: Her Royal Highness, Tengku Ampuan Pahang, Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah Almarhum Sultan Iskandar Al-Haj, has called for the revival of Sarawak's pottery art as a cultural heritage that must be preserved.
Her Royal Highness expressed that the pottery art possesses its own unique qualities through the patterns and motifs of the local communities, thus making it a highly valuable heritage worthy of being inherited by future generations.
“I notice that pottery art has been forgotten in Sarawak, so I urge for the revival of this craft, because I still remember these are the pieces I always took home whenever I visited Sarawak, and they are still displayed at my residence in Kuantan.
“I request the revival of something that is truly unique to Sarawak, because the pottery bears the motif patterns of the local community here, and once again, this is my challenge to the Sarawak Government,” Her Royal Highness stated.
Her Royal Highness delivered this royal keynote address during the official opening of the Borneo International Textile Festival (BiTF) 2025 Seminar, here on Monday.
She elaborated that she believes this challenge can be met by the Sarawak Government, which is well-known for its support, especially in preserving its unique heritage.
“Sarawak is an exemplary model of how heritage should be appreciated, how heritage should be nurtured and continued, as Sarawak is blessed with institutions that shape the future of heritage.
“When all these elements unite, we build an ecosystem that sustains livelihoods, strengthens identity, and empowers the people.
“I must commend the Sarawak Government for investing not only in institutions but also in prisons. When I requested funding to establish the Songket Centre at Puncak Borneo Prison, the support came immediately,” Her Royal Highness added. - UKASnews
