BARIO: SMK Bario celebrated its annual Excellence Awards 2025 today, recognising outstanding achievements by students in an event filled with pride and community spirit.
The ceremony was officiated by Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Labour, Immigration and Project Monitoring) and Mulu Assemblyman, Datuk Gerawat Gala.
Datuk Gerawat said the awards serve as an important platform to honour perseverance, discipline and excellence among students, while also acknowledging the dedication of teachers and the continuous support of parents in shaping their children's success.
He emphasised that SMK Bario remains a vital institution for the highland community, proving that geographical challenges do not hinder achievement when students and educators demonstrate resilience and commitment.
The state government, he added, continues to enhance rural education through improvements in school infrastructure, digital access, hostel facilities and academic support to ensure quality learning opportunities for students in Bario.
Datuk Gerawat also encouraged students to remain motivated, reminding them that success is achieved through consistent effort, and urging those who have yet to receive recognition not to give up.
He called on parents to maintain strong cooperation with the school to support the holistic development of their children.
“This proves that excellence knows no boundaries. It is born from commitment, perseverance and hard work,” he said.
The event concluded with the presentation of awards to top academic and co-curricular performers, followed by a photography session with the VIPs and recipients. -UKASnews
