BANGKOK: Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg, has arrived in Bangkok, Thailand, to attend the IWA Water and Development Congress & Exhibition 2025 (WDCE 2025).
The Premier, who was accompanied by the Sarawak Minister for Utility and Telecommunication, Dato Sri Julaihi Narawi, and Sarawak Secretary, Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, arrived safely at Don Mueang International Airport at approximately 12:29 PM local time on Monday.
Welcoming the Premier at Don Mueang International Airport were the Minister of Political Affairs from the Malaysian Embassy in Bangkok, Ahmad Hashim Mahmood, and the Permanent Secretary of the Sarawak Ministry of Utility and Telecommunication (MUT), Datu Jafri Lias.
Upon his arrival at the hotel, he was greeted by the Malaysian Ambassador to Thailand, Datuk Wan Zaidi Wan Abdullah, Deputy Sarawak Secretary (Operations), Datu Hii Chang Kee, and other state government delegates.
The Sarawak Premier is scheduled to deliver a plenary keynote speech titled “Water: A Driver for Sarawak's Resilient and Sustainable Future” this Tuesday at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre in Bangkok.
In addition to the Premier, several experts and researchers from various countries are also due to present keynote addresses, focusing on clean water, sanitation, and innovation solutions.
WDCE 2025, which runs from 8 to 12 December, is a global event concentrating on water and development issues in low and middle-income countries.
The event aims to connect experts, utilities, and researchers to share knowledge, foster collaboration, and showcase solutions for water and sanitation challenges.
Under the theme “Water, Sanitation and Innovation – Pathways to Progress and a Resilient Future”, the 2025 edition will present solutions encompassing water and sanitation services, the role of water in urban areas, the link between cities and basins, and opportunities for achieving climate resilience.
It features keynote addresses from specially invited, leading sector figures who will share their experiences in shaping and delivering solutions. The programme will also provide a unique platform for water professionals to present and share their latest findings and insights.
The Sarawak Premier will continue his working visit to China from 10 to 13 December. - UKASnews
