KUCHING: Proactive disaster preparedness was the highlight as a flood preparedness briefing was held for the Tupong constituency, reinforcing coordination and early-response readiness among relevant agencies ahead of the monsoon season.
The briefing was attended by Chief Political Secretary to the Sarawak Premier and Tupong Assemblyman Dato Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman, reflecting the state leadership’s emphasis on safeguarding communities in flood-prone areas.
Held at Hana Sofiyya Hall along Jalan Astana on Tuesday afternoon, the session brought together representatives from security forces, rescue units and technical departments directly involved in disaster management and emergency response.
Discussions during the briefing focused on early preparations for the monsoon period, emergency action plans, evacuation procedures, and the delivery of aid and assistance should flooding occur.
Particular attention was given to streamlining coordination mechanisms to ensure swift and effective responses during emergencies.
Dato Fazzrudin stressed that early preparedness is crucial in minimising risks and reducing the impact of floods, especially in areas identified as vulnerable.
He underscored the need for all agencies to remain vigilant, responsive and committed to their respective roles to protect lives and property.
He also highlighted the importance of close cooperation between government agencies and local communities, noting that effective communication and shared responsibility are key to ensuring residents’ safety and well-being.
The briefing concluded with a discussion and question-and-answer session aimed at clarifying agency responsibilities and identifying areas for improvement, as part of continuous efforts to strengthen flood management preparedness in Tupong. -UKASnews
