Sarawak Reaffirms Commitment To Inclusive Development At OKU Day 2025
KUCHING: Sarawak strengthened its commitment to inclusive development as the Sarawak Persons with Disabilities (OKU) Day 2025 was celebrated at Imperial Hotel Kuching on Thursday.
Officiating the event, Deputy Minister for Community Wellbeing Development, Datuk Mohamad Razi Sitam, said the celebration reflects the state’s shared determination to ensure the OKU community progresses alongside others.
“This year’s celebration is not just a ritual. It is a manifestation of our collective faith in building an inclusive society,” he said.
He highlighted the contributions of OKU individuals, especially Sarawak’s record-breaking paralympic athletes, noting that the theme “An Inclusive OKU Community, the Key to Social Progress” highlights their central role in social advancement.
Datuk Mohamad Razi said Sarawak’s goal of achieving developed, high-income status by 2030 must be inclusive, with continued efforts to expand education, training, employment access and social support for persons with disabilities.
He later commended MBKS for its efforts in developing OKU-friendly environments and encouraged other local authorities to adopt similar initiatives.
Speaking to reporters after the ceremony, he expressed appreciation for the dedication of parents and caregivers.
