Sarawak Bolsters Green Energy Transition To Curb Carbon Emissions
KUCHING: Sarawak is further strengthening its commitment to the green economy agenda through the exploration and development of the renewable energy industry.
This strategic move aims to reduce reliance on fossil fuels and significantly curb carbon emissions.
Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg, said this approach aligns with the State's sustainable development roadmap which emphasises transition toward clean energy, long-term energy security, and environmental sustainability.
The Sarawak Premier noted that the Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM) Sarawak plays a vital role in realising these aspirations as a driver of innovation and engineering expertise, instrumental in planning and developing the resilient infrastructure required to support a low-carbon energy transition.
He shared these views during the Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM) Sarawak Annual Dinner here on Friday night.
The Sarawak Premier added that integrated efforts between the State Government, professional institutions, and industry players are expected to solidify Sarawak’s position as a regional leader in the green economy.
This is in line with the State's vision for a competitive, low-carbon future.
Furthermore, he explained that the implementation of the Sarawak Free Tertiary Education Scheme (FTES) is expected to produce a greater number of highly skilled and competitive local chartered engineers.
These professionals will act as catalysts for the growth and transformation of the State’s engineering sector.
During the event, the Sarawak Premier witnessed the exchange of three separate Letters of Intent (LOI) between IEM Sarawak and the Advanced Semiconductor Academy of Malaysia (ASEM), SOLARVEST, and Saint-Gobain Malaysia.
Additionally, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was exchanged between IEM Sarawak and the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB).
Also in attendance were Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Professor Dr Sim Kui Hian, Minister of Works Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi, and other senior state officials and industry leaders. -UKAsnews
