Rehearsal For 2026 New Year Countdown Runs Smoothly
KUCHING: The rehearsal for the 2026 New Year Countdown which took place at the main stage of the celebration on the Kuching Waterfront ran smoothly on Monday.
The rehearsal was to ensure the smooth running of the actual ceremony which will take place this Wednesday where the Sarawak Governor Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and his wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi are expected to grace the event.
Present during the rehearsal session was Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts and Minister-In-Charge of the celebration Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah to ensure that all preparations such as artist performances, fireworks displays and various other exciting performances taking place on the day of the event run according to plan.
When met by the media, Dato Sri Abdul Karim said that he had been informed by the organisers that the preparations are running smoothly without encountering any problems.
He also expressed hope that weather conditions would be favourable for the event so that the public could attend and watch performances eagerly awaited by Sarawakians every year.
“We think that if the weather is good, in addition to entertainment performances by famous artists brought over, there could be tens of thousands of people in the Waterfront area,” he said.
Dato Sri Abdul Karim also called on the public attending the countdown celebration to carpool to the Kuching Waterfront in an effort to reduce congestion in the area.
The Minister for Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development also called on the public to park their vehicles further away from the Kuching Waterfront to ensure the smooth flow of traffic in the area.
The 2026 New Year's Eve celebration will feature leading Indonesian artist Judika and famous Indonesian artist Dayang Nurfaizah and various other artists including local artists.
A laser fireworks show and a fireworks show will also be held in addition to a unique performance that will be recorded in the Guinness Book Of Records. -UKASnews
