AirBorneo Completes Acquisition Of MASwings, Strengthens Regional Air Connectivity
KUALA LUMPUR: The Sarawak Government announced the successful completion of the acquisition of MASwings Sdn. Bhd. by AirBorneo Holdings Sdn Bhd, a wholly-owned entity of the Sarawak Government, effective 1 January 2026.
Present during the acquisition completion event on Wednesday was Sarawak Secretary and Chairman of AirBorneo Holdings Sdn Bhd Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, Sarawak Financial Secretary Dato Sri Dr Wan Lizozman Wan Omar and other representatives from AirBorneo Holdings, the Sarawak Government as well as representatives from the Malaysian Aviation Group.
The Sale and Purchase Agreement was signed between Malaysia Aviation Group and the Sarawak Government on 12 February 2025.
Effective 1 January 2026, AirBorneo will assume full legal and operational responsibility of MASwings.
During this initial phase of transition, MASwings branding will continue whilst AirBorneo progressively rolls out its new brand identity.
AirBorneo in a statement on Wednesday expressed appreciation towards the cooperation and understanding of passengers, partners and stakeholders during this transition period.
“This acquisition supports the Sarawak Government’s strategic objectives of strengthening regional air connectivity and ensuring affordable fares for Sarawak and its people.
“This move marks a key step in supporting the state’s broader social and economic development agenda and lays the foundation for the airline’s next phase of growth as AirBorneo,” it said.
The Sarawak Government expressed thanks to all employees, partners, and stakeholders for their support throughout the transaction and the transition process.
