CABCOM Strengthens Efforts To Enhance Governance & Accountability
MIRI: The Cabinet Committee on Financial Statements and Annual Budget Estimates for State Statutory Bodies and Local Authorities (CABCOM) convened its first meeting of the year in Miri City, in line with the implementation of a working visit programme to the Miri Port Authority and Sarawak Water Sdn Bhd (Northern Region).
The meeting on Thursday was chaired by Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Integrity and Ombudsman), Datuk Dr Juanda Jaya, who emphasised that all observations, advice and recommendations put forward by the CABCOM Committee should serve as guidance for continuous improvement efforts in financial management and governance among Local Authorities (PBT) and State Statutory Bodies (BBN), in accordance with the aspirations of the YAB Premier of Sarawak.
The working visits to the Miri Port Authority and Sarawak Water Sdn Bhd (Northern Region) formed part of CABCOM’s ongoing programme, which involves face-to-face engagement at the operational level to better understand the functions and implementation of agency operations, assess governance practices, and gain a more comprehensive appreciation of the real challenges faced by implementing agencies.
This two-day programme directly enabled CABCOM to evaluate governance implementation in a more realistic manner, while supporting continuous improvement initiatives that emphasise management efficiency, transparency in work processes and the strengthening of a culture of integrity, alongside ensuring that the use of public resources delivers value for money to the people. -UKASnews
