SIBU: The Sarawak Public Works Department (JKR) has launched the first closed-circuit camera (CCTV) system with artificial intelligence (AI) technology at the P-Turn of the Pan Borneo Highway in Selangau.

JKR Sarawak Director Datu Dr Cassidy Morris said that the installation of the first AI-technology CCTV at Pan Borneo Sarawak marks a proactive measure in strengthening the safety aspects and monitoring the cleanliness of the public environment.

“This is in line with the state’s development aspirations towards a smart city,” he said in a post on the official JKR Sarawak Facebook page on Wednesday.

He also called on all parties to make the best use of this technology and at the same time reminded road users to always be careful, obey traffic rules and prioritise safety for the sake of community well-being.

Datu Dr Cassidy in the post said that the implementation of this AI CCTV system is poised to be able to monitor traffic movements more effectively, thus supporting efforts to prevent accidents and improve traffic management around the Selangau area and Sibu Division.

"JKR Sarawak will continue to be committed to strengthening road safety infrastructure through innovative approaches for the well-being of road users," he said. -UKASnews
