The Awaited Moment Arrives: Muslims To Welcome Syawal This Saturday
KUCHING: Muslims in the country will celebrate Hari Raya Aidilfitri on Saturday, 21 March 2026.
The announcement was made by the Keeper of the Rulers’ Seal, Tan Sri Syed Danial Syed Ahmad, on Thursday night.
Meanwhile, the 'rukyah hilal' (new moon sighting) ceremony to determine the beginning of 1 Syawal 1447 Hijrah was officially carried out at three main locations in Sarawak on Thursday evening.
At Teluk Bandung, Kuching, the observation ceremony was attended by the Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Project Coordinator for Regional Development Agencies, the Kuching North City Hall and Islamic Affairs), Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junadi.
In addition, observations were also conducted at the Pusat Falak Miri as well as Tanjung Batu, Bintulu, involving appointed falak officers together with the cooperation of state Islamic agencies.
The implementation of the 'rukyah hilal' is an important method in determining the beginning of the month of Syawal, combining physical observation and astronomical calculations to ensure the accuracy of the date for the Aidilfitri celebration.
The ceremony was also attended by community leaders and representatives from related agencies as a show of support for efforts to strengthen coordination in determining important dates for the Muslim community in Sarawak. -UKASnews
