KUCHING: The Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS) received a courtesy call from the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) to strengthen strategic ties and discuss potential collaboration for the Borneo Animation & Games Festival 2026 which is scheduled to take place from 19 to 23 August.

The MDEC delegation, led by Senior Manager (Sarawak and Sabah), State Digital Economy Office, Awang Safri Awang Ahmad, was received by UKAS Director Awang Putrayusrie Awang Redzuan at the UKAS headquarters on Wednesday.

During the visit, MDEC shared insights into its role as an agency under the Ministry of Digital in driving the nation’s digital economy transformation, including efforts to develop the animation, digital games, creative content ecosystem as well as local talent development.

Among the key agenda items discussed was a proposed strategic collaboration with UKAS to enhance publicity and coverage of the Borneo Animation & Games Festival 2026, a five-day event set to bring together industry players, creative practitioners, investors and young talents in animation and digital gaming from both local and international spheres.

The programme is scheduled to be launched by Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg, and will feature a range of activities including exhibitions, sharing sessions, project showcases, career fairs and outdoor movie screenings to attract public participation. -UKASnews
