Mukah Kaul 2026 Bermukun Competition Vibrant, Attracts International Participation
MUKAH: The organisation of the Bermukun competition in conjunction with Mukah Kaul 2026 continues to bolster efforts to preserve and elevate the cultural heritage of the Melanau community, successfully drawing widespread participation including from outside the Mukah Division and neighbouring Brunei Darussalam.
In the competition, the Mukun Warisan Melanau Bintulu group was crowned champion of the Adiwarna category after recording the highest score of 96.5 per cent, taking home a cash prize of RM1,200, a trophy, and a certificate.
Second place was won by Perantau Seni with 96 per cent, earning RM1,000, while third place went to the Selendang Putera group from the Mukun Selendang Sutera group, Brunei Darussalam, with 94.5 per cent to claim RM800.
In the same category, the award for Best Attire and Grooming was won by Selendang Sutera, while the award for Best Pantun Pair went to Perantau Seni.
Meanwhile, the Adiputera category saw the Kasihnya Perantau group emerge as champions, followed by Kasih Abadi as runners-up and Warisan Zaman Berzaman in third place while Kasihnya Perantau also secured the awards for Best Attire and Grooming as well as Best Pantun Reciters.
The prize presentation ceremony was officiated by the Mukah District Officer Peleadzman Ahip and was also attended by the Member of Parliament for Mukah and Deputy Minister of Health Dato Hanifah Hajar Taib.
For the record, a total of 14 groups participated, involving contestants from Mukah, Oya, Daro, Bintulu, Miri, Limbang, and Brunei Darussalam.
Organised by the Mukah District Community and Village Leaders (KMKK), this competition not only enlivened the Kaul Mukah celebrations but also served as an important platform for attracting external participation and elevating the art of bermukun to a broader level, in line with the government's commitment to empowering the state's cultural heritage.-UKASnews
