Exploration Of Aerospace & High-Tech Industries Charts Strategic Pathway For Sarawak’s Economic Growth
KUCHING: Sarawak’s move to venture into the aerospace and high-technology industries is being viewed as a long-term strategic approach capable of opening a new chapter in the state’s economic development.
Sarawak Governor Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar said the advancement of high-technology sectors holds significant potential in creating more high-income employment opportunities, particularly for professionals and skilled local talent.
According to him, the aerospace industry extends far beyond aircraft maintenance, encompassing various strategic segments including spare parts manufacturing, satellite technology, drone technology and the digital economy.
“At the same time, Sarawak will also gain the capability to control and store government as well as personal data and information for the security and interests of Sarawak and its people,” he said.
He said this during his opening speech at the First Meeting of the Fifth Term of the 19th Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN), here on Monday.
In this regard, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi underscored the importance of close collaboration between the government, education institutions, relevant ministries, professional bodies and industry players in developing local talent capable of meeting future industry needs.
“In this matter, ministries and agencies involved in talent development, particularly higher learning institutions and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions, cannot operate in silos or take lightly the responsibility entrusted to them.
“Instead, strategic collaboration with industry players, consumer bodies, professionals and highly skilled workers must be strengthened to ensure the training, skills and expertise developed are truly aligned with industry needs,” he explained.
He added that Sarawak’s success in aerospace, green energy and the digital economy will not depend solely on government policies, but will also be driven by the state’s ability to produce highly skilled and professional talent capable of competing on the global stage.
