Ombudsman Special Select Committee Strengthens Institutional Accountability In DUN
KUCHING: The establishment of the Ombudsman Special Select Committee has been described as an important step in strengthening institutional accountability and ensuring every complaint related to public service delivery receives due attention at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) level.
Kota Sentosa Assemblyman Wilfred Yap Yau Sin said the appointment of the committee is not a political gimmick, but rather reflects the government’s commitment towards reinforcing a governance system that is more transparent, responsive and people-oriented.
“Today, we are taking another important step by ensuring that the findings and reports produced through the Ombudsman process receive proper legislative attention through this committee.
“This demonstrates a government that is confident enough to accept scrutiny because it is committed to continuous improvement,” he said.
He said this when debating the motion on the appointment of the Ombudsman Special Select Committee during the 19th Sarawak DUN Sitting on Wednesday.
According to Wilfred, the establishment of the committee also creates room for more independent and structured reviews of issues raised by the public before they are brought for consideration at the DUN level.
“This creates an additional layer of institutional accountability that strengthens public confidence in governance,” he added. -UKASnews
