Temporary Bridge Completion To Speed Up Kota Petra Green Technology Park Development
KUCHING: The development of the Kota Petra Green Technology Park (KPGTP) is expected to gain momentum with the completion of the temporary Sungai Serai steel bridge linking the park to the Demak Laut Industrial Park by the end of June 2026.
The 3,000-acre KPGTP is Zecon Berhad’s flagship green development masterplan, powered by 300 megawatts alternating current (MWac) of renewable energy generated through a large-scale agrivoltaics solar farm.
According to a statement on Wednesday, its first phase, spanning about 300 acres, involves the development of a 100MWac solar farm that will supply green energy to Sarawak Energy Berhad under a 30-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) signed in October 2025.
The project is scheduled to commence commercial operations in December 2027.
Zecon Berhad’s Chairman Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Morshidi Abdul Ghani together with Group Managing Director Datuk Zainal Abidin Ahmad and Chief Operating Officer Brandon Goh visited the site to inspect the temporary bridge and the Phase One solar site preparation works on 16 May.
Tan Sri Mohd Morshidi said the temporary steel bridge was being constructed as a priority to facilitate the commencement of Phase One of the 100MWac large-scale agrivoltaics solar farm.
“Once completed by June this year, the bridge will be used to transport heavy equipment across the river, including trucks carrying earth materials, machinery and solar panels. The bridge is six metres wide and capable of supporting loads of up to 120 tonnes,” he said.
He added that about 150 acres of the Phase One site had already been cleared, with full site clearing expected to be completed by August this year.
According to him, Zecon obtained a 30-year 300MWac solar generation and distribution licence from the Ministry of Utility and Telecommunication Sarawak (MUTS) in February 2025.
Tan Sri Mohd Morshidi said the progress achieved so far reflected Zecon’s commitment to ensuring the 100MWac solar project is energised according to schedule, while also boosting confidence in the wider KPGTP masterplan development.
He also revealed that construction of the permanent 153-metre Sungai Serai bridge, located adjacent to the temporary structure, would commence immediately after the steel bridge is completed and is expected to be finished by August 2028.
Once completed, the permanent bridge will improve connectivity between the Demak Laut Industrial Park, New Sejingkat Bridge, Samarahan and Bako.
Tan Sri Mohd Morshidi said the approval-in-principle for future phases of the KPGTP would position the park as a future-ready green energy and high-technology hub, further strengthening investor confidence in its long-term potential. -UKASnews
