Miri Mayfest Carnival 2026 Fosters Unity, Spurs Local Economy
MIRI: The launch of Miri Mayfest Carnival 2026 has added fresh vibrancy to celebrations marking the city’s 21st anniversary, serving as a platform to bring together communities of diverse backgrounds while invigorating local economic and tourism activities.
The launch ceremony, which took place at Level 1, Miri City Hall Building on Wednesday, was officiated by Miri City Mayor Adam Yii Siew Sang.
In his speech, he expressed his appreciation to the organising committee led by Sean Huang Hong Siong and all parties involved for their commitment to making the carnival a success.
"Throughout 21 years of development, Miri has continued to grow as a dynamic, vibrant and multi-racial city as a result of close community cooperation," he said.
He stressed that the organisation of Miri Mayfest not only brings together the community through various cultural, sports and entertainment activities, but also serves as a platform to strengthen unity.
Commenting further, Adam encouraged the public to take the opportunity to participate in the various programmes held throughout the celebration in addition to supporting local talent and community economic activities.
According to him, the organisation of the carnival is expected to have a positive impact on the tourism sector, youth involvement and community wellbeing, further enhancing Miri’s image as a progressive and visitor-friendly city.
The Miri Mayfest 2026 celebration is being held from 20 to 24 May at the Miri City Council building, featuring a variety of attractions including interactive programmes, exhibitions, sales booths, cultural showcases and stage entertainment, all offered free of charge to the public.
Also present were Miri City Deputy Mayor Ariffin Mohamad, SDG Committee Chairman Jamil Bujang and City Secretary Abdul Rahman Taupek. -UKASnews
