Malaysia Wins Two Categories At 3rd Asian Squash Doubles Championship 2026
KUCHING: Malaysia proved its dominance on the Asian squash stage when it emerged champions in two of the three categories contested at the 3rd Asian Doubles Squash Championship 2026 which concluded at the Sarawak Squash Centre, Petra Jaya, on Sunday.
Malaysia successfully clinched the championship titles for the women's doubles and mixed doubles categories, reflecting the nation’s positive development of squash as well as the ability of local athletes to compete at the international level.
In the Women's Doubles category, the national pair of Ainaa Amani and Yee Xin Ying successfully clinched the championship title after defeating the Hong Kong pair of Cheng Ngan Ching and Fung Ching Hei who finished as runners-up.
Third place was won by the Hong Kong pair of Lam Po Ying and Wong Po Yui Kirstie, while the Indian pair of Joshna Chinappa and Rathika Seelan came in fourth.
The Mixed Doubles category saw another Malaysian success when the pair of Ameeshenraj Chandaran and Rachel Arnold emerged champions.
The national pair of Mohammad Syafiq Kamal and Ainaa Amani took second place, followed by Hong Kong pair, Lai Chuek Nam Matthew and Tse Yee Lam Toby in third place, while the Indian pair, Velavan Senthikumar and Joshna Chinappa were in fourth position.
For the Men's Doubles category, the Indian pair, Abhay Singh and Velavan Senthikumar were crowned champions after putting on an excellent performance throughout the tournament.
The Pakistani pair, Nasir Iqbal and Noor Zaman emerged as runners-up, while the Malaysian pair, Duncan Lee and Sanjay Jeeva were in third place followed by Ameeshenraj Chandaran and Joachim Chuan in fourth place.
The closing and prize giving ceremony of the tournament which took place from 18 to 21 June was officiated by Chief Executive Officer of the Sarawak Sports Corporation (SSC) Mu'azamir Jili. -UKASnews
