Sarawak Athlete Martyn Lim Elevates Nation At Borneo100 Triathlon 2026
KUCHING: Sarawak-born national triathlon athlete, Martyn Lim Wen Xuan has once again made the state and Malaysia known on the international stage when he emerged as the overall champion of the Borneo100 Triathlon 2026 which took place in Sematan last Sunday.
The success came through a dominant performance by Martyn who recorded a total time of 3 hours and 51 minutes, beating the competition of participants from home and abroad in a tournament that brought together elite regional and international triathlon athletes.
The 26-year-old athlete from Kuching displayed consistent performance throughout the race when he maintained the front position in the swimming event before creating an advantage through the cycling event, establishing the fastest record of the day, which was 2 hours 3 minutes 14 seconds.
He then sealed the championship win through a brilliant run when he recorded a time of 1 hour 18 minutes 26 seconds, becoming the only participant to record a time under one hour 20 minutes in the segment.
The victory saw Malaysia dominate the overall men's podium when Yap Qi Yi emerged as runner-up with a time of 3 hours 55 minutes 30 seconds, while Thiang Chong Yoong rounded out the top three positions with a time of 4 hours 6 minutes 8 seconds.
Martyn's achievements also reinforce his reputation as one of the best multi-discipline athletes in the nation at the moment.
He is a regular member of the national triathlon camp and has represented Malaysia in various international championships.
Previously, Martyn helped Malaysia win the mixed relay title at the 2026 World Triathlon Development Regional Cup in Kampar with Sara Joy Chen, Yap Qi Yi and Esther Joy Chen.
He has also represented the country at the 2025 SEA Games in Rayong, Thailand by contributing two bronze medals through the men's duathlon team relay and mixed relay events.
Meanwhile, in the women's category, Singaporean athlete Choo Ling Er emerged as the overall champion with a time of 4 hours 11 minutes 19 seconds, followed by Elaine Young in second place and Malaysian athlete Chew Huey Ming in third.
Borneo100 Triathlon 2026 also attracted athletes from Singapore, Brunei, Indonesia, the United Kingdom, Italy, Denmark, Japan and Russia, cementing its position as one of the most competitive triathlon events in the region.
Martyn's success not only reflects the improved performance of Sarawak's athletes on the international stage, but also proves the state's potential in producing the nation's elite athletes in high-performance endurance sports. -UKASnews
