Kuching Festival 2026 Slated To Begin On 22 July To 16 August
KUCHING: The Kuching Festival 2026 will begin from 22 July to 16 August 2026 at the Kuching South City Council (MBKS) grounds.
MBKS Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng said that this edition of Kuching Festival carries the theme of ‘Building a Compassionate and Resilient City for a Sustainable Future’.
According to him, the theme is reflected in every programme planned by MBKS.
“We have carefully planned for this year’s festival which also embraces our commitment of ‘no one left behind’, including children to the youth, adults and senior citizens, proving that there is truly something for everyone to enjoy,” he said.
He said this during the festival launching press conference here on Tuesday.
The Kuching Festival organised by MBKS is more than a festival, featuring a variety of foods and beverages to enjoy, alongside 29 exciting events to entertain the public who are welcome to join in on the festivities.
Dato Wee invited the people of Kuching as well as visitors from abroad and local to participate in the festival, which is celebrating its 40th year and commemorates the 38th anniversary of Kuching City Day.
Meanwhile, in another press conference, the MBKS Mayor also announced the 35th ASEAN Veteran Basketball Tournament organised by the Hornbill Basketball Club taking place on 11 to 15 August 2026 at the MBKS Sports Village, in conjunction with the Kuching Festival 2026.
“MBKS is delighted to sponsor the venue for this prestigious tournament, which adds another exciting dimension to the annual Kuching Festival,” he said.
Chairman of Hornbill Basketball Club Ivan Liew added that this year’s tournament will welcome 30 veteran teams from ASEAN countries.
“We are also especially proud of the fact that Kuching will be represented by six teams, reflecting our city’s passion and strength in basketball,” he said.
The ASEAN Veteran Basketball Tournament is an annual event hosted on a rotational basis by the basketball associations or clubs of ASEAN member countries.
Dato Wee thanked the Hornbill Basketball Club for their contribution towards making this tournament possible and expressed hope that this tournament would strengthen the spirit of friendship among ASEAN nations. -UKASnews
