BCCK Now Sarawak's First 5G Site, Strengthening Digital Event Capabilities
KUCHING: The Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) has emerged as the first location in Sarawak with direct indoor 5G coverage through an in-building coverage (IBC) solution, thus strengthening its role as a high-tech event hub in the region.
The ULTRA5G network coverage serves over 3,740 square metres and is able to provide high-speed and stable internet connection, including during large-scale events with high user density.
Minister for Utility and Telecommunication Dato Sri Julaihi Narawi said the successful implementation at BCCK 1 is poised to be extended to BCCK 2 when the project is completed later.
According to him, the need for 5G technology is particularly important to support the event industry and large-scale operations.
"Based on the speed tests shown, the difference between 4G and 5G is very significant. If 4G is around 200 megabits per second, 5G is capable of reaching over 1,100 megabits per second, much faster," he said when met in conjunction with the Borneo International Water and Wastewater Exhibition and Conference (BIWWEC) 2026 here, on Wednesday.
He added that the facility can be provided to meet the future needs of BCCK 2 if the management needs a high-speed connection.
Meanwhile, Chief Executive Officer of Demanlink Connexion Sdn Bhd Hanad Yusuf said that this implementation is a key foundation in supporting the growth of Sarawak's business events industry which is expected to generate a large economic impact.
According to him, this initiative will strengthen the position of Kuching and Sarawak as the main destination for modern and competitive international business events. -UKASnews
