Sibu-West Bank Bridge Project Continues To Make Progress
SIBU: The proposed bridge linking Sibu town with Sibu West Bank continues to make encouraging progress with the project's design now completed, reinforcing confidence in the implementation of the strategic infrastructure that is expected to serve as a catalyst for the area's development.
Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Central Youth Chairman Kevin Lau Kor Jie said the latest development reflects the state government's continued commitment under the leadership of Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg to delivering projects that benefit the rakyat.
“I would like to express my deepest appreciation to the Sarawak Premier for announcing the latest progress of this project. It not only brings renewed hope to the people of Sibu but is also expected to become a catalyst for the development of Sibu West Bank,” he said in a statement on Tuesday.
According to him, the bridge is expected to enhance connectivity, accelerating development in the area, stimulating economic activities, attracting new investments and creating more employment opportunities for the local community.
He added that the bridge also has the potential to become a new landmark for Sibu while supporting more balanced regional development.
Kevin who is also the SUPP Bawang Assan Branch Chairman said the proposal to construct the bridge was first put forward during the SUPP Chinese New Year celebration last year, which was attended by the Sarawak Premier as the guest of honour.
Following the proposal, he said the Sarawak Premier directed the establishment of a task force, jointly chaired by Deputy Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development Datuk Dr Annuar Rapa’ee and Deputy Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government Datuk Michael Tiang Ming Tee, to study the implementation of the project.
He said the announcement that the bridge's design has been completed indicates that the project is progressing according to plan and has a clear implementation roadmap. -UKASnews
