Integrity Must Be Cultivated From Home, Strengthened At School & Practiced In The Community
KUCHING: The culture of integrity must be cultivated from home, strengthened through education and then practiced in the community to form a society that is the foundation for sustainable Sarawak prosperity.
Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg said efforts to strengthen governance and integrity should not only be concentrated in government organisations, but rather should be values that live in society.
"We want integrity to be a culture that starts at home, is reinforced in schools and is practiced in the community.
"When this value becomes part of the people's daily lives, we will not only build a better administration, but also form a society that is the foundation for sustainable Sarawak prosperity," he said.
He said this when speaking at the Sarawak Integrity Day 2026 Celebration at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) on Wednesday.
Datuk Patinggi Abang Zohari explained that the family is the first foundation in shaping a person's values and personality through the inculcation of the values of honesty, trust, discipline and responsibility in daily life.
Adding that, these values must then be strengthened through education because schools are not only a place to gain knowledge, but also play a role in shaping the character, identity and ability of the younger generation to make decisions based on strong values.
In this regard, he supported the initiative of the Sarawak Integrity and Ombudsman Unit (UNIONS) in establishing the School Integrity Friends Club (KRIS), including the creation of the KRIS Module in introducing the value of integrity in a more structured way to the younger generation.
He also emphasised the importance of cultivating integrity at the community level with Community and Tribal Leaders (KMKK) playing an important role in ensuring that the values of trust, transparency and responsibility are instilled in community management.
"Through the implementation of the Community Leadership Integrity Module (MIKM), the Sarawak Government continues to empower grassroots leaders with knowledge related to integrity, governance and trust management so that they can carry out their responsibilities more effectively and become examples to the community," he explained. — UKASnews
