133 Young Gymnasts To Vie For National Spots At MAGGA SAGGA Sarawak Compulsory Competition
KUCHING: Sarawak's next generation of aesthetic group gymnasts will take to the floor this Saturday, as 133 athletes from schools and clubs across the state compete for a shot at national honours.
In a statement on Sunday, the Sarawak Aesthetic Group Gymnastics Association (SAGGA), working with the Malaysian Aesthetic Group Gymnastics Association (MAGGA), will host the MAGGA SAGGA Sarawak Compulsory Competition 2026 on 29 August at Dewan Sa'ati, SUPP Headquarters, Kuching.
About 180 participants and officials, including coaches, judges and volunteers, are expected.
The top two teams in each category and age group will earn the right to represent Sarawak at the Malaysia AGG Championship 2026, set for 27 September at Endah Parade, Kuala Lumpur.
Competing under three categories — Club, School and Mixed Teams — athletes aged 7 to 18 will perform official routines under the MAGGA Compulsory Program, formerly known as the AGG School Program.
Participating schools and clubs include Mine Dance Studio, SJK (C) Chung Hua Sungai Lubak, Track & Dance and SJK (C) Chung Hua No. 4½, among others.
The statement added that Batu Kitang Assemblyman Dato Ir. Lo Khere Chiang is expected to officiate the event as Guest of Honour.
SAGGA said the competition reflects its grassroots commitment to building confident, healthy and resilient Anak-Anak Sarawak through sport, describing the programme as a structured pathway from recreational participation to competitive achievement.
The association thanked the Sarawak Government and Sarawak United Peoples' Party (SUPP) for their continued support, along with sponsors including MILO, Jerald's Cookies & Desserts, Vitagen, Marigold and RK Nasi Lemak.
Admission to the competition on 29 August to be held at Dewan Sa’ati, SUPP Headquarters is open to the public.
Competition runs from 2 pm to 3.30 pm, with the closing ceremony and prize-giving at 4 pm. -UKASnews
