KUCHING: The Sarawak Government has acknowledged the proposed names of the state constituencies submitted by the Election Commission (EC) through the exhibition and public feedback gathering process.

Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg said that the process is the EC's responsibility, including gathering feedback from voters on the proposals submitted.

"This is the work of the EC. The EC has displayed proposals including the names of state constituencies and subsequently received feedback from the public," he said.

He said this when met by reporters after the opening ceremony of the General Assembly and Convention of the Federation of Engineering Institutions of Asia and the Pacific (FEIAP) at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) on Thursday.

Commenting on several state constituency names regarded as less established, Datuk Patinggi Abang Zohari said that the matter did not pose an issue if the proposed name refers to an existing location.

According to him, there are areas or villages that have specific names, including Pasir Pandak, which in reality is the name of a village in Sarawak.

Meanwhile, when asked if the process could be completed before the end of the current term of the state government, the Sarawak Premier said the matter depends on the process being carried out by the EC.

He said the process is still at the stage of the first exhibition and will be followed by the second exhibition. -UKASnews
