TATAU: A total of 12 SmartBoard units have been allocated to SJK(C) Chung Hua Tatau to strengthen the implementation of technology-based teaching and learning (PdP), aligning with the Sarawak Government's efforts to empower digital education.

Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department and Kakus Assemblyman Dato Sri John Sikie Tayai said that providing digital facilities is part of the government’s continuous effort to ensure schools in Sarawak possess educational infrastructure capable of meeting the needs of today's generation.

He noted that the Sarawak Government has also increased support for Chinese Aided Primary Schools by allocating RM12 million in 2026, compared to RM9 million in the previous year.

“Mastery of multiple languages represents an advantage for the younger generation, particularly when facing increasingly competitive job opportunities,” he said.

He said this while speaking at the SJK(C) Chung Hua Tatau SmartBoard Launch Ceremony at SJK(C) Chung Hua Tatau on Friday.

According to him, Chinese national-type schools are also a popular choice among various ethnic communities in Tatau, including Malays, Ibans, Punans, and Beketans.

He added that a multi-ethnic educational environment provides opportunities for pupils to master Malay, English, Mandarin, and their respective mother tongues.

Meanwhile, Headmistress of SJK(C) Chung Hua Tatau, Katherine Hii Suh Yiing, said the receipt of the 12 SmartBoard units allows teachers to execute PdP in a more creative, dynamic, and interactive manner.

According to her, the facility also offers a more engaging and meaningful learning experience for pupils.

In the meantime, Dato Sri John Sikie also contributed RM10,000 to the school for the construction of a preschool toilet.

The contribution assists the school in providing more comfortable, clean, and suitable facilities for preschool pupils' use.

The year 2026 also marks a special year for SJK(C) Chung Hua Tatau as the school celebrates the 100th anniversary of its establishment.

Also present were Consultative Committee Member of the Association of Management Boards of Aided Chinese Primary Schools Sarawak Datuk Pau Chiong Ung, Deputy Tatau/Sebauh District Education Officer Feizlina Talip, Chairman of the Board of Management of SJK(C) Chung Hua Tatau Ting Meng Hock, and Parent-Teacher Association (PIBG) President of SJK(C) Chung Hua Tatau Wong Tee Tee. — UKASnews
