KKR-MOH To Hold Follow-Up Meeting Next Week To Discuss Kapit Health Needs
KAPIT: The need to upgrade healthcare facilities and improve rural health services in Kapit will be discussed at a follow-up meeting between the Ministry of Works (KKR) and the Ministry of Health (MOH) next week.
The meeting follows a visit by Works Minister and Kapit Member of Parliament Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi together with Deputy Economy Minister Dato Indera Mohd Shahar Abdullah to Bleteh Health Clinic and Kapit Hospital on Wednesday to assess the needs and actual condition of healthcare facilities in the area.
Dato Indera Mohd Shahar said on-site assessments are important to ensure development planning takes into account the actual needs of the community, especially matters requiring immediate attention.
“Planning must be based on the current situation on the ground and not merely on plans drawn up on paper, besides also taking into account local needs and urgent matters,” he said.
He said this when met by reporters after visiting Bleteh Health Clinic and Kapit Hospital on Wednesday.
According to him, the follow-up meeting with KKR and MOH will examine issues identified during the visit as well as measures to expedite preliminary works.
Among the needs identified are shortages of personnel and vehicles to support rural health services, the poor condition of staff quarters and the need to improve hospital facilities.
Other needs include waiting areas, parking facilities, road access and medical equipment to support the delivery of healthcare services to residents.
During the visit, the delegation also toured the Emergency Unit, Haemodialysis Unit, specialist clinics, outpatient counters, Pharmacy Unit as well as CT scan facilities and echocardiogram machine at Kapit Hospital.
Dato Indera Mohd Shahar said existing plans need to be reassessed to ensure proposed projects not only address current needs but also deliver long-term benefits.
The visit was part of the Targeted SDG 2026 Programme which focuses on sustainable development issues and challenges at the district level through interventions based on local needs.
Also present were Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier's Department (Native Laws and Customs) Datuk Jefferson Jamit Unyat, Political Secretary to the Minister of Works Datuk Alvin Runggah Jimbun, Political Secretaries to the Premier of Sarawak Watson Awan Jalai and Paulus Dandee Temenggong Banyang, Kapit Division Resident Elvis Didit and URDA Regional Director Sagu Unting. -UKASnews
