BETONG: The use of drone technology in agriculture is set to become one of the new approaches to improving management efficiency and agricultural output in Betong Division.

Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg said the use of such technology is important in efforts to modernise the agriculture sector in line with present-day food production needs.

He said the use of drones in agricultural activities requires skilled personnel with the relevant knowledge and qualifications to ensure the technology can be utilised effectively.

"A technology-based approach also needs to be adopted in the agriculture sector to boost productivity, besides helping Sarawak strengthen food production for local and overseas markets.

"Drones are important, and we need personnel who can operate and manage this technology properly," he said.

He said this while speaking at the Sarawakku Sayang (SKS) Betong Division Programme, on Saturday.

He added that the adoption of the latest technology in the agriculture sector would enable Betong Division to develop its potential as an agricultural production area, given the suitability of its land and opportunities to expand food production.
