KUCHING: The passing of Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali, wife of former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, is described as a great loss to Malaysians.

Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said Tun Dr Siti Hasmah’s contributions and role as a steadfast companion to Tun Dr Mahathir throughout his tenure as Prime Minister also formed part of an important chapter in the nation’s journey.

He said Tun Dr Mahathir led the country for 22 years, a period that saw significant changes and progress in Malaysia’s development.

“This is a great loss not only to Tun Dr Mahathir’s family but also to Malaysians,” he said.

He said this when met by reporters after representing Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg at the Opening Ceremony of the Sarawak National Sports Integrity Conference (SNSIC) at Hikmah Exchange Event Centre (HEEC) here, on Monday.

Dato Sri Abdul Karim also extended his condolences to Tun Dr Mahathir and his entire family over the passing of Tun Dr Siti Hasmah.

Born on 12 July 1926, Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali passed away at the age of 100 at the National Heart Institute (IJN) in Kuala Lumpur on Monday. -UKASnews
