Miri Youth Urged To Actively Join Clubs & Associations
MIRI: Youth in Miri city are urged to participate more actively in clubs and associations to build self-confidence, hone leadership skills, and expand their social networks, thereby playing a more meaningful role in community development.
Mayor of Miri City Council cum Pujut Assemblyman, Adam Yii Siew Sang, stated that young people represent the cornerstone of the city's future and must seize opportunities to engage actively in community activities.
“Youth should not operate in isolation; instead, they ought to take the initiative to establish their own youth clubs or join existing associations to develop their potential and contribute to community building,” he said.
He said this when speaking at the closing ceremony of the Unassociated Youth Intervention Programme 2026: Miri Youth Democracy Talk and Youth Education at the Multipurpose Hall, Miri Division Lin Clan Association Building, here on Saturday.
Adam added that involvement in associations affords young people opportunities to foster self-confidence, nurture leadership capabilities, forge new friendships, and gain valuable experience through diverse activities and volunteer programs.
According to him, youths interested in joining associations but unsure of where to start can seek assistance, guidance, and support from the Miri City Bestari Youth Club.
Organised by the Miri Intelligent Youth Club (MIYC) and Miri City Bestari Youth Club, the program featured talks on the Malaysian Youth Parliament and youth democracy, briefings on the Sarawak Free Education Initiative, alongside an introductory session to local government authorities.
Participants were also exposed to information regarding youth associations and volunteering opportunities aimed at elevating awareness and understanding of their avenues for social engagement. — UKASnews
