KUCHING: Sarawak’s revenue is projected to increase to RM15.091 billion in 2027, compared with RM6.864 billion in 2017, reflecting the state’s stronger financial position and enhanced capacity to fund development for the well-being of the people.
Batu Kitang Assemblyman Dato Ir Lo Khere Chiang said the more than twofold increase over the decade demonstrated Sarawak’s ability to strengthen its revenue through prudent resource management and sustained development planning.
“When our Premier took office in 2017, Sarawak’s annual revenue stood at RM6.864 billion. For 2027, revenue is projected to reach RM15.091 billion, more than double that figure,” he said.
He was speaking during the debate on the Supply (2027) Bill, 2026 at the 19th Sarawak Legislative Assembly Sitting on Wednesday.
He added that the Sarawak 2027 Budget had also allocated RM10.098 billion for development expenditure, with a projected surplus of RM246 million.
He said the state’s stronger financial position would enable Sarawak to continue implementing strategic development projects, including the construction of ports, bridges, roads and Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) infrastructure.
At the same time, attention was also being given to the development of renewable energy, digital technology and artificial intelligence (AI) as key drivers of the state’s economic growth.
He added that rural development remained a priority, with RM6.4 billion allocated under the 2027 Budget to ensure that progress and the benefits of development were shared more comprehensively and equitably among the people throughout Sarawak. -UKASnews
