KMKK Plays Key Role In Ensuring Smooth Local Affairs
KUCHING: Community Leaders and Village Heads (KMKK) play an important role in ensuring the smooth handling of customary matters, residents’ welfare, public safety and community unity, in line with the implementation of government policies.
Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts and Asajaya Assemblyman Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said the responsibilities of KMKK also included verifying residents’ official documents and handling various local community matters that required attention at the grassroots level.
“The government recognises that KMKK in rural areas shoulder significant roles and responsibilities. In recognition of their dedicated service, the state government has gradually improved their allowance rates,” he said.
He was speaking at the Asajaya District Community Leaders’ Appreciation and Thanksgiving Ceremony at a hotel here on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Dato Sri Abdul Karim said the Samarahan and Asajaya areas would benefit from the development of a modern road network, including a proposed elevated highway linking Kampung Tambir to Sebuyau.
He said the infrastructure development was part of efforts to strengthen connectivity and support Sarawak’s development agenda under the Post-COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030), towards achieving the state’s aspiration of becoming a high-income economy by 2030.
The ceremony also saw certificates of appreciation presented to four former community leaders in recognition of their dedicated service and contributions spanning more than 20 years. -UKASnews
