Kuching ART Proof-of-Concept Test Targeted To Begin By Year-End
KUCHING: The Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) proof-of-concept testing in Kuching is targeted to begin by the end of this year to evaluate system performance, safety, and operational readiness before commercial operations commence.
Minister for Transport Sarawak, Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin, stated that the testing will be conducted along the Phase 1 Blue Line alignment stretch from Rembus to Northbank.
“This line has currently achieved a physical progress of 88 percent against the planned progress target of 97 percent.
“The first two ART units have arrived in Kuching, while another two units are expected to arrive by the end of this year,” he said.
He said this when delivering his ministry's winding-up speech at the 19th Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) Sitting here on Monday.
According to Dato Sri Lee, the testing phase enables contractors and operators to assess system performance, as well as identify and rectify any shortcomings before starting commercial operations.
In a related development, he informed that construction work on the ART Green Line is expected to begin in the first quarter of 2027, as construction work on the Blue Line and Red Line continues.
“While construction works on the Blue Line and Red Line are ongoing, the Green Line will be executed shortly, with construction expected to commence in the first quarter of 2027,” he added. — UKASnews
