Technology, Accurate Data Strengthen Sarawak's Environmental Management
KUCHING: The use of modern technology, research and accurate data is important in strengthening monitoring and enforcement to ensure environmental management in Sarawak is carried out more effectively.
Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said that the increasingly complex environmental challenges require close cooperation between government agencies, the industry sector, academic institutions, non-governmental organisations and the community.
"We need to take advantage of research, modern technology and accurate data to strengthen environmental monitoring, enforcement and management," he said.
He said this while representing Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg at the 2026 Sarawak-Level National Environment Day celebration at a hotel, here, on Thursday.
According to Datuk Amar Awang Tengah, Sarawak is also enhancing the management of greenhouse gas emissions through the use of a more systematic reporting and monitoring system to ensure that economic and industrial activities are carried out responsibly and comply with environmental legislation.
He said the approach was also supported by the use of clean technology and innovation in green economic development, including hydrogen technology, solar energy as well as carbon capture, use and storage (CCUS). -UKASnews
