Rural Water Supply Enhanced As Lichok Plant Begins Operation
ROBAN: The Acute System construction project at the Lichok Plant is now fully operational, benefiting approximately 6,700 homes in the Kabong, Krian and Kalaka areas, as well as meeting the demand for treated water supply more consistently.
The project, which began in February 2025 at a cost of around RM28.8 million, involves the construction of a new Water Treatment Plant with a capacity of 10 million litres per day and the installation of 450mm HDPE pipes 5 kilometres long from the Lichok Treatment Plant to the Bukit Lebur Water Tank.
Sarawak Minister for Utility and Telecommunication, Dato Sri Julaihi Narawi said this project is capable of solving the low water pressure problem previously faced by local residents.
In the meantime, he also informed that the Sarawak Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB) will continue to ensure that every water supply project in the Betong Division is completed on schedule, in order to guarantee a continuous supply of quality treated water to rural residents.
In other developments, he also announced that the new pipe construction project in Saratok worth RM182.5 million will commence this November and is expected to be completed within 36 months.
