RM1.96 Billion Approved To Upgrade Water Supply In Kapit
KAPIT: The Sarawak Government has approved an allocation of RM1.96 billion for upgrading water supply facilities in the Kapit Division, in an effort to enhance coverage and access to clean water in the area.
Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg, said the Federal Government has also allocated an additional RM300 million for the same purpose.
“This is to improve water supply access for the whole of Kapit,” he said.
He shared this during a press conference after chairing the State Development Coordination Committee Meeting (SDCCM) here on Thursday.
During the meeting, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Port Development, Ministry of Utility and Telecommunication, Ministry of Natural Resources and Urban Development, Ministry of Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development, and the Upper Rajang Development Agency (URDA) presented updates on the progress of state-funded projects in the Kapit Division.
The Premier added that the state government is also developing several key road projects in the area, including an allocation of RM122 million for the road project in Merirai.
“We are also building a number of important roads here which will connect Baleh, the dam, as well as longhouses and settlements in the interior,” he said.
He further mentioned that URDA and RECODA have received a second round of funding amounting to RM1.5 billion under the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP).
“This is to implement and continue several projects, including those that aim to increase household income,” he explained.
Also present were the Minister of Works, Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi, Sarawak Minister of Utility and Telecommunication, Dato Sri Julaihi Narawi, Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development, Dato Sri Roland Sagah Wee Inn, Minister in the Premier’s Department, Dato Sri John Sikie Tayai, Minister of Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development, Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah, Sarawak Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, along with Deputy Ministers, Members of the Sarawak Legislative Assembly, and heads of departments. -UKASnews
