MBKS Reopens Upgraded Taman Awam BDC, Focus On Liveable City
KUCHING: The public park, Taman Awam BDC, in Lorong F has officially reopened following a major upgrade, marking another step forward in Kuching South City Council’s (MBKS) ongoing efforts to enhance public spaces and promote healthier urban living.
MBKS Mayor, Dato Wee Hong Seng, said the park’s transformation reflects the council’s commitment to creating greener, safer and more inclusive recreational areas for the community.
The upgrading works were carried out under the 'Naik Taraf Taman Awam' Programme, funded by the National Landscape Department under the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT).
The project, which began earlier this year, was completed on 21 October 2025.
Dato Wee thanked KPKT for its strong support, noting that the successful completion of the project demonstrates effective cooperation between the Federal Government and local authorities.
The upgraded park now includes a new entrance pavilion, improved walkways, children’s play facilities, outdoor fitness equipment, new signage and refreshed landscaping with additional trees and shrubs.
These features, he said, make the park more accessible and family-friendly.
Dato Wee also commended the contractor, Cottage Holdings Sdn. Bhd., for completing the works according to specifications and within schedule.
He added that upgrading public parks supports MBKS’ wider vision of making Kuching South a Child-Friendly and Age-Friendly City, aligned with the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030 and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
Dato Wee urged residents to take responsibility in caring for public facilities and to report any vandalism. Looking ahead, MBKS will focus on improving Taman Sahabat and Kuching Park as part of its mission to build “A City That Truly Cares.” -UKASnews
