Building Bill Enhances Green Standards, Strengthens Investor Confidence
KUCHING: The Building (Amendment) Bill which was passed by the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) on Monday will elevate Sarawak’s green building framework and ensure clearer, more consistent development standards.
According to Batu Kitang Assemblyman Dato Ir Lo Khere Chiang, the Bill’s introduction of a regulatory board will ensure only qualified and accredited architect’ and engineers carry out green building work, preventing unverified practitioners from operating in the state.
“The Sarawak Building Board will bring professionalism and protects the public by verifying qualifications and setting clear standards,” he said in a press conference held at the Sarawak DUN Complex on Tuesday.
Dato Lo also highlighted that the Bill is designed to streamline approval processes by removing inconsistent interpretations between councils and consultants, which currently cause delays.
“The Bill creates clarity, no delay. One board and one standard will help councils approve plans more efficiently,” he said.
He added that stronger governance and clearer technical requirements will position Sarawak more competitively in the global green economy while supporting better service delivery across the state. -UKASnews
