MSSB Kuching Dominate Yayasan Sarawak Gold Cup Football Championship 2025
KUCHING: Kuching’s Divisional Schools Sports Council (MSSB) squad clinched the 2025 Yayasan Sarawak Gold Cup Football Championship after edging MSSB Serian 1–0 in a fiercely contested final at the Sarawak State Stadium on Saturday.
MSSB Mukah and MSSB Betong completed the list of the tournament’s top four teams, finishing third and fourth respectively.
The prize-giving ceremony was officiated by the Sarawak Governor, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar.
MSSB Kuching’s dominance was further highlighted through the achievements of two of their players.
Adam Jonas Zichei Martha Annys, was named Best Goalkeeper, a recognition that reflected his consistency and command throughout the competition.
Meanwhile, Stevestephen Ronald Pengarah Francis, received the award for Best Player of the Final, adding yet another accolade to Kuching’s impressive showing this year.
Several special tournament awards were also announced. The Most Promising Player Award went to Akqmal Al-Halim Duat of MSSB Betong, while the Top Scorer Award was secured by MSSB Limbang’s Danish Darren Edruce, who recorded four goals over the course of the competition.
The Unity Player Award was presented to Mohammad Dzuelazriel Sim of MSSB Mukah, and MSSB Mukah also took home the Fair Play Award in recognition of their discipline and sportsmanship.
This year’s edition featured the participation of 12 MSSB teams in the Under-16 category, involving 240 players, 101 team officials and 112 committee members who gathered in Kuching for six days to ensure the smooth running of the event.
The tournament continues to serve as an important platform for identifying Under-16 talents who may later progress to the MSSS, MSSM or the State Sports School development programmes.-UKASnews
