KUCHING: In a move to bolster public safety and combat rising commercial crime, Kuching South City Council (MBKS) has established better networking with the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM).
On Tuesday, MBKS Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng, Deputy Mayor Dato Zaiedi Suhaili, and senior MBKS officers met with the Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) of the PDRM.
Led by Superintendent Mohd Syafiq Jinuin Abdullah, Deputy Head of the CCID (Investigation/Legal), the meeting focused on addressing the increasing threats of scams, money-laundering, and misleading advertisements in the city, while exploring joint strategies to protect residents and raise public awareness.
“The session served as an introductory platform for both parties to discuss recent crime trends, share insights, and plan coordinated efforts aimed at preventing fraud and safeguarding the community,” said MBKS in a statement.
Meanwhile, Dato Wee emphasised the importance of close collaboration between MBKS and the police, particularly in public education initiatives.
“Protecting our community from scams and fraudulent activities requires strong cooperation. We value the proactive efforts of the Police Department and look forward to joint campaigns that enhance public awareness and safety,” he said.
The meeting concluded with a commitment to strengthen communication, coordination, and public engagement, reinforcing the shared goal of ensuring the wellbeing and safety of residents in Kuching South. -UKASnews
