Kuching Students Pay Courtesy Call On Mayor Of Guro, South Korea
SOUTH KOREA: A group of 12 students from Kuching City paid a courtesy call on the Mayor of Guro, Jang In Hong, during their participation in the Kuching South–Guro Student Exchange Programme from 30 March to 4 April 2026.
Welcoming the delegation, Mayor Jang highlighted the long-standing friendship between Guro City and Kuching South, expressing hope that the visit would further strengthen ties and provide a meaningful cultural experience for the students.
"Guro City and Kuching South City have built a strong relationship through continuous exchange and cooperation. I hope this visit will be a memorable experience for all of you," he said.
Speaking on behalf of the delegation, a student representative expressed appreciation for the opportunity.
Another student representative added that the visit allowed them to experience Korean culture firsthand while building new friendships.
The exchange programme, held under a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between both cities, is conducted on an alternating yearly basis to promote cultural understanding and youth engagement.
Meanwhile, Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng, said the programme reflects MBKS’s commitment to child development under the UNICEF Child Friendly Cities Initiative (CFCI), where Kuching South is recognised as a UNICEF Candidate City, by providing students with opportunities for international exposure, cultural exchange and meaningful learning experiences. -UKASnews
