KUCHING: The Kenyalang Journalism Awards (KJA) 2025 is set to take place at Pullman Hotel Kuching on 20 December, with Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg invited as the guest of honour.
President of the Kuching Division Journalists Association (KDJA) Ronnie Teo said this year’s edition received 433 entries, with the Malaysian Press Institute (MPI) having completed the judging process and finalised the results.
“As with last year, the number of award categories remains unchanged at 10, covering the Malay, English, Chinese, and Iban languages.
“Some categories involve broadcast entries in addition to those specifically for broadcast journalism, while others include photo journalism and photo essays,” he said when met after leading a KDJA courtesy call on the Premier of Sarawak at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) Complex on Tuesday.
The categories contested this year are Feature and News Feature, News Reporting, Sports Reporting, Broadcast Journalism, Sustainability Journalism, Business and Economic Journalism, Community Well-being Journalism, Photo Journalism, Photo Essay and Digital Economy Journalism.
When asked about financial assistance for media practitioners, Ronnie expressed hope that the Sarawak Premier would announce ‘good news’ during the winding-up session on Wednesday.
“We also hope, based on feedback from the media industry, that more support can be provided in terms of welfare and networking.
“We hope to receive this support, in line with what is being extended to civil servants. However, we will need to wait for the Sarawak Premier’s announcement,” he said. -UKASnews
