Bintulu Regatta 2025 Spurs Local Entrepreneurship & Community Income
BINTULU: The Bintulu Regatta 2025 not only revives the district’s long-standing tradition of water sports festivities but also creates meaningful economic opportunities for local communities through entrepreneurship activities.
Jepak Assemblyman Iskandar Turkee said a total of 100 entrepreneurship stalls operated throughout this year’s regatta, featuring participation from the Sejati community, Village Development and Security Committees (JKKK) and longhouse residents, offering a wide range of products including handicrafts, agricultural items, food and beverages, as well as services such as canopies and public-address systems.
“Alhamdulillah, today we see how the entrepreneurship programmes held in conjunction with the regatta have successfully helped both youth and adults generate income, including those selling drinks and food products. Indirectly, the regatta boosts the local economy, and even the hotel and accommodation industry benefits from the influx of visitors to Bintulu,” he said.
He told reporters this after officiating the Entrepreneur and Sejati MADANI Sales Stalls in conjunction with the Bintulu Regatta 2025 at Pier 99 here on Friday.
Meanwhile, Iskandar reminded traders to maintain the quality of their products, particularly food, and ensure prices remain reasonable to attract more visitors to their stalls.
Beyond selling at the regatta grounds, he also encouraged entrepreneurs to leverage digital platforms such as TikTok and Facebook to expand their market reach.
“The creativity of our communities continues to grow, with some selling oyster mushrooms, pickled mushrooms, chives-based products, woven crafts and rattan items. The Single Mothers’ Association is also actively promoting their products. This effort aligns with the Premier’s aspiration to empower communities through the digital economy and achieve the PCDS 2030 target of RM15,000 average household income,” he added. -UKASnews
